E-Government in MalaYsiA

Due to the technology advancement, Malaysia also followed the trends to adopt the use of information system to fasten the working efficiency of various government departments, for example, Inland Revenue Board. The vision of electronic government is a vision for government, businesses and citizen working together for the benefit of Malaysia and all its citizens. By adopting E-government, it would enable the government to become more responsive to the needs of its citizens.

In order to implement E-government effectively in Malaysia, citizen perception is very significant because citizens are the main targets who are going to use the services. Therefore, the citizen’s adoption strategies should be more citizens friendly. Citizens expect governmental services to have high quality and quantity as well as availability in a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week, and year-round fashion. Therefore, there is a need for government to ensure that their systems are always ready to perform services all around the time. Break down in system would cause citizens’ frustration. Success in delivering electronic services depends upon the capability and self-confidence of citizens in performing e-transactions. Another issue that the citizens concern is the security problem. Hence, the database that contains citizens’ profile should be well protected and give surety to citizens.

Furthermore, education for citizens is important. No matter how excellent the systems are, if the citizens don’t know how to operate it, it is really useless. Government can organize some seminars for the citizens to educate them the usefulness and effectiveness of the e-government services. The information about the launch of the e-government services should be well-known to the citizens. In addition, technical knowledge should not be neglected. Apportion of citizens still don’t know how to use the computer, therefore, technology barriers become an important issues. The procedures for the e-government services should be easy understood and followed.

There are several departments that work well with e-government services. There are TM, JPJ and TNB. For more detailed, you can access to http://www.gov.my/. It is myGovernment Portal that acts as the one-stop source of Malaysian government information and services for the citizens.
